Twenty years without a website.
How the site you are standing in was made. Not the code. The eleven attempts to turn me into one coherent person, the brand documents that came out of them, and why I gave up and hid for two decades. This website is the twelfth attempt, and the first one I count as a work.

nowYou cannot fit me into any box.
Every one-line version of me that a branding exercise produced, 2015 to 2026, and the only line that survived. The sources are below.
“You say identity should be transcended, but you’re building an identity called the guy who transcends identity.” Me, arguing with myself · India and plurality · November 2025
“It was never transcendence. I meant transcending the limitations of the self, not leaving the self. Expanding what one self can hold.” Me, answering myself · October 2026
The last real one was 2008.
raghavakk.com was a static page I last touched in 2008. Then I stopped working on it, stopped checking it, and at some point lost the domain. More than ten years passed with no website at all. Cartoonists, painters, toy makers, TED speakers all have websites. I had a long list of things I was called and nothing I could point to.
It was not laziness. It was the opposite. In those years I tried, again and again, to find one brand and present myself as one coherent person. Every attempt produced a document. Every document failed the same way: it fit me into a box, and I did not fit. So I hid.
This dossier is the record of those attempts, taken from my own files. It reads as a comedy until you notice that it lasted twenty years.
Artist 50%. Philosopher 35%. Entrepreneur 15%.
The first exercise I can find. I split myself into percentages and scored every project I had ever done against a brand promise: we make things that are beautiful, meaningful, and superbly celebrate the joy of living. The cartoon school scored 74 percent. Pop-it, the children’s app, scored 77. The hand paintings scored 54.
I also listed the people the brand was for, by name, with what each of them got from me. Introductions. Tricks of the trade. Feel like they are friends with a celebrity. I do not know what to do with that line now except leave it here.
Someone to present me to India.
A page of notes from a discussion about hiring someone to build my brand. What am I looking for? “Someone to present me to India and build an authentic brand based on me and not on any other institution.” Under Who is Raghava? the list reads: unique creative mind, artist, think differently, live differently, non-conformist, visionary, re-inventor, disruptor, motivational speaker.
Two headings lower: I am under utilized. Then: I have not reached my potential. Then the note a brander left me with, which I have not answered in eight years: you should not present yourself as an artist shown by a gallery. Present yourself as a source of ideas. How do you value that and how do you brand that?
Creator of Disruptive Beauty.
A branding agency interviewed me for four hours and came back with a Brand Anchor Summary. Five anchors: Creator of Disruptive Beauty. Accomplished Artist with Decades of Multi-disciplinary Experience. Innovator of Human Potential Augmentation. Lover of the Inner-Child. Storyteller. Each with a value and a promise.
The same year a website was scoped around it: painting series, art collabs, interactive art, curation, community, talks, writings. A consolidated copy document ran to thousands of words in a voice that was not mine. A developer set up a raghavakk.com fed from a spreadsheet and an art database. What happened to it after that is not in my files. Nothing I can find went live and stayed.
Fresh, Audacious & Inspiring.
Another exercise, this time with the studio. One slide per series, and on every slide the same word cloud: mischief, imperfection, humour, grotesque, hopeful, loving, safe, graceful, beautiful, meaninglessness, darkness, pain, mystery, fresh, authentic, rebellious, fringe, cyborg life, new attitudes. The Guernica series. The Edge series. The Orgasm Project. The Toy Trojan. Eye Candy. Every slide identical.
I think that deck knew something the others did not. The words were the same for every series because the person was the same. It just could not say so in fewer than nineteen words.
India’s first personality artist.
The objective on slide two: arrive at a one line and a one paragraph intro for Raghava KK. The examples given: Warhol, the artist of celebrity and superficiality. Kusama. Picasso. Basquiat. KAWS, the outsider artist of the weirdly cute. Then me, sorted on four axes against them: restless artist versus artist of maturation, extroverted versus introverted, wounded versus private, self-made versus schooled.
The line the deck settled on was the poet of change and restlessness. The restless artist. Keywords: restlessness, infinitely curious, change, quirky, provocative, ADHD, childlike, wounded, honest, open, self taught. Three years later that word became the name of a room on this site.
Twenty-five phases, A to Y.
Vaidehi, the designer I later made my logo with, built me a website. The master sheet behind it turned my life into a lettered list, one story per letter: A, fascinated by exaggeration. B, obsessed with faces. E, introspective and dark mood swings. I, homesick in America. M, looking back at a beautifully fragmented life. T, am I a commodity? W, learning to surrender. Y, misc.
The site was not good. That is not a judgement on her. It was the fourth time someone had been asked to make a house for a man who kept moving out. The letters survived: the archive book uses the same alphabet. The website did not. In December the same year I wrote a note for an rkk mind website, a chatbot built on binaries, and the studio’s plan for 2025 was titled, without irony, A clean start.
See Differently. Live Differently.
Brand values, brand objective, audience definition, tone of voice, brand personality, visual language, proof points, brand architecture, activation pillars. Three taglines, one for Instagram, one for collectors, one for press. Raghava KK is an artist who works in many mediums, always shifting the way we see the world.
It is a competent document. Anyone could run a studio from it. That was the problem. Three months later I wrote an essay in which one half of me tells the other: You say India shouldn’t be a brand, but you’re writing a brand strategy. Indian philosophy is anti-brand. It is the party where the host disappears. Only plurality had ever come close to describing me, and plurality is exactly what a brand cannot hold.
What we never say.
Written while this site was already being built. Positioning and narrative foundation, working draft. The central question: Who is Raghava KK? Everything else should become evidence for that answer. It is the best of the documents. It is also the one that decided me, because of one list.
- scattered
- restless
- ADHD-driven
- multidisciplinary for its own sake
- impossible to categorize
- constantly reinventing
- finally understood
- ahead of its time
- a page called Restless Lab
- a switch in the corner labelled Restless: how I actually am
- pop-ups that wear an ADHD tag
- a threshold that reads it is overwhelming on purpose
- an archive of what I keep becoming
- struck words left visible on every page
- a crate stamped Contents: one restless mind
- this dossier
I am not against the document. Its authors did their job. I am the one who cannot be done. So I stopped hiring people to describe me and built the description as a thing you can walk around in.
The twelfth attempt is the work.
This site was rebuilt from a code-only baseline on 10 May 2026 and has been changing most days since. The restlessness was put in on purpose on 28 September: the tape that reverses when you scroll up, the page that fidgets when you sit still, a work that tugs your sleeve while you read about another. It costs the site as a website. Fewer people find the contact form. I chose it anyway, which is the only test I trust for whether something is a work.
Its subject is not me. Its subject is the twenty years I spent trying to be summarised. Every failed brand above is a study for it. The site is the one that does not resolve, and does not apologise for it, and has two switches so you can turn me down if it is too much.
Record: raghavakkstudio.com, 2026, ongoing. Website, one restless mind. Edition of one. It sits in the Restless Lab beside the artist books it grew out of: MAYBE you KNOW ME, On Being me!, Artist Not Found. Its lineage is drawn here.
None of this would exist without Sonia.
Every document quoted on this page was found because someone kept it. Sonia Lewis joined the studio six years ago and started collecting, and never stopped documenting: more than two thousand files since, the brand exercises, the website scopes, the brochures, the inventories, the persona deck, the plans for clean starts. She professionalised the studio. She also did something harder to name, which I will name anyway: she protected the mind of Raghava from the parts of Raghava that would have lost all of it.
A restless practice needs one person who is not restless. This website is built on her archive. So is the show.
Who built it. Me and Claude. Rudra, my eldest, taught me hosting and fixed the API issues. Vaidehi and I made the mark in the corner. Everyone else in it is in the search.
Even the twelfth attempt tried to hide.
The site keeps a log of every change. Read in order, it repeats the whole story in five months. Each line below is a commit message, verbatim.
- 10 May
- Code-only baseline: publish-hardening pass
- 14 May
- Password gate (SITE_PASSWORD env) + hide excavate hero-rail · Gate all pages: client-side auth check at top of every <head>Four days in, I locked the whole thing. It stayed locked for four months.

- Publish Calling All Gods: ungated standalone pageThe only door left open was the show’s.
- 30 Aug
- lineage: how the series made each other · lineage: nothing feeds the past · type rollout: white ground
- 11 Sep
- calling all gods: the artist presents his own show, wall text in first person, no curator · home: one line said once, the rest is inventory; no curator
- 22 Sep
- Studio: statement, series intros and “why I made this series” notes in first person
- 24 Sep
- Copy sweep: no em dashes on the site, a few LLM tells trimmed · Fix: Karthik is Raghava’s older brother, not his twin (twin is Kaesava)
- 28 Sep
- Restless pass: reactive tape, idle fidget, tangents, a god per room, care, hints, what I cut
- 29 Sep

- Home, threshold edition · Threshold v3: the warning gets interrupted, a ledger keeps count, the switches say who they are for
- 1 Oct
- This dossier. The website enters its own inventory. · The wounds go back on: four life events return to the lineage, unannotated; the “why I made this series” notes open again; too fast says its first line out loud
- 8 Oct
- The neighbours at the door (1990) enter the lineage and the home notes; three essays from the placement thread; the show page gets its third movement; the brand page answers its own questionThe artist as his own critic, first pass.
Gate, ungate, first person, no curator, take the furniture off, take the wounds off, say it once. The log is a man arguing with a brand, in public, at commit speed. I am leaving it in because it is the process, and this dossier is meant to show the process honestly.
It will not be finished.
A brand is finished when it is approved. A work like this is finished when I am. Until then the site keeps its strikeouts, its wrong turns, its two switches, and its habit of interrupting you. If you came here for the one line, it is at the top of this page, and it is the only one I did not pay for.
